Old Colony House, Washington Square

In the 18th century, gently used items were in-demand and, in 1770s Newport, a group of women capitalized on this by orchestrating a theft ring to resell stolen shoes, clothing and household goods. Join the Newport Historical Society’s costumed living historians for this one-of-a-kind History Space event. Step into the 1739 Colony House and help solve the mystery of who stole the many items that are missing from Newport homes! This interactive event is free and open to the public, donations are welcome.

11am: Women in 18th Century Newport Walking Tour

Museum of Newport History at the Brick Market at 127 Thames Street

Follow a guide in authentic historical clothing as she retraces the lives of the shopkeepers, tavern owners, teachers and more of 18th century Newport. This tour investigates the many entrepreneurial women who once lived and worked in this diverse seaport.
