During African American History month, discover the early history of Newport’s people of color, enslaved and free. This tour looks at the places where the enslaved lived and labored, along with locations where free blacks built their enterprises and supported a new local industry. IMC's junior Company presents Carnival of the Animals, in a ballet performance and poetry reading set to the music of Camille Saint Saens. Performances are at 2:30pm and again at 3:30pm. Tickets are $6 for 1 adult and 1 child, $4 each additional adult, $3 for additional children. $1 discount with each bracelet presented.
Tickets are available at the Company’s website at www.islandmovingco.org. The “Carnival of the Animals” is Directed by Brooke DiFrancesco and choreographed by Christine Sandorfi. A Lion, two Hens, a Donkey, a Tortoise and other assorted creatures dance to music by Camille Saint-Saens in a production that lasts roughly one half hour. The Winter Festival presentation will be suitable for children of all ages and will include an opportunity to join the dancers in some dancing after the performance.
